3 Unusual Interior Details in this Frankfurt Apartment that most people miss

The first thing you notice at the entrance is how quiet it is. Black and white only, a large USM sideboard, one hand-painted piece on the wall.

Then you walk further in. A blush pink dining table. An all-beige living room, ceiling included. A 180 square meter apartment in Frankfurt, built up room by room over four years.

What holds this eclectic interior design together is repetition. The same materials, the same sideboard brand, show up again and again.

The couple, Mien and Marvin, have been slowly shaping this home for about two years. Photographer: Chrissi.

Nothing feels like it was chosen all at once. And I think that’s exactly why it works so well. Heres the link to the video.

3 things I noticed in this Frankfurt apartment

1. Color drenching doesn’t have to mean bold color.

The living room is almost entirely beige. Walls, ceiling, curtains, everything.

I think we often associate color drenching with dramatic greens, blues or reds, but this room made me think about it differently. The magic is really in repeating the same tone across the room. Even a soft neutral can feel incredibly intentional when you commit to it :)

2. More little tables can actually make a room feel calmer.

There isn’t one big coffee table sitting in the middle of the living room.

Instead, Mien and Marvin have a few smaller tables at different heights.

It’s one of those details that sounds like it should make a room feel busier, but somehow does the opposite.

It feels collected rather than staged.

A sunlit bedroom features striped bedding, a vibrant plant, and colorful wall art above a neatly made bed. Mismatched bedside tables, including a striking blue one, add charm to the airy space.

3. Your nightstands really don’t need to match.

This is such a small detail, but I noticed it immediately.

The two nightstands are completely different pieces. One is white with blue details, while the other almost flips that combination around.

I love this because it’s such an easy way to make a bedroom feel more personal. Symmetry can be beautiful, but sometimes a little imbalance is what makes a room feel like someone actually lives there.

And I think that’s what I took away from this apartment most: the best homes rarely look like they were designed in one weekend.

They evolve.

A piece gets added here, a color gets introduced there, and eventually all those little decisions start telling the story of the people who live there.
